As someone who's been trying to get rid of excess oil on my face since forever, I've never really bothered to moisturize my face before. I mean I do apply moisturizer in the morning, for the sake of flawless makeup. But at night, well I only apply moisturizer when I have time or when my brain doesn't fail me. I've always thought and felt that moisturizer or any toner and face wash with moisturizing properties would just make my face greasier.....until I saw patchy flaky areas around my nose and cheeks lately and it looked so yuck especially with makeup on. I still have rather oily nose but plus the flakiness. While my conditioning lotion that acts as a primer helps, but I want something more moisturizing for the night. After looking up online, I found some good reviews on Hada Labo Indonesia Hyaluronic Acid series. I've known Hada Labo since quite a while ago but I seriously invested more to makeup than skincare. The only skincare products I actually purchased are probably pore related products, aside of daily facial wash and oil free toner. But I was googling and found these products on Nihonmart Kosmetik Jepang Online, an Indonesian based store that carries many Japanese skincare products especially Hada Labo. Though I always see Hada Labo products on drugstores but usually I'm more interested in any products when I see them online lol so I just had to try them.
Anyway, this range has been around for a long while and it's one of their best selling products as it is said to be sold 1 every 2 seconds in Japan. How convincing is that? Well, considering the amount of good reviews I read it totally convinced me to try. I got the facial wash, lotion (Japanese toners are usually called lotions), and moisturizing milk. Hyaluronic Acid is known as a carbohydrate occurring naturally throughout the human body. But with age, the ability of the skin to produce Hyaluronic Acid decreases, that is why HA is said to be beneficial and often found in skincare products as an excellent moisturizer. So today I'll be reviewing Hada Labo Gokujyun Hyaluronic Acid Face Wash, Light Lotion, and Milk.
Hada Labo Gokujyun Hyaluronic Acid Face Wash
I'm going to start with the face wash. It comes in tube packaging. The face wash is fragrance and colorant free. It has no smell at all.
There's a detailed product explanation in the back. The Ultimate Moisturizing Face Wash contains 2 types of Hyaluronic Acid. Improved Hyaluronic Acid (AcHA) with twice the moisture retention capacity of Hyaluronic Acid. It is said 1gr Hyaluronic Acid is able to hold up to 6 liters of water. Replenishes essential moisture to visibly improve skin texture and prevent dryness so skin stays soft, hydrated and supple.
-Hydrates as it cleanses skin from dirt and oil.
-Helps restore and preserve skin's natural moisture, leaving it silky smooth.
-Gently cleanses leaving skin comfortably hydrated and refreshed.
-Skin pH balanced, low irritation.
-Free of fragrances, mineral oil, alcohol and colorant.
Instructions : After removing your makeup, moisten face and hands with lukewarm water. Apply a pea-size amount into palm and work into lather. Gently massage onto face, using circular motions. Rinse thoroughly. Use twice a day or as needed.
Ingredients : Water, Glycerin, Sodium Cocoyl Glycinate, Butylene Glycol, Hydroxypropyl Starch Phosphate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, PEG-400, Decyl Glucoside, Sodium Lauroyl Aspartate, Potassium Cocoyl Glycinate, Glyceryl Stearate SE, Sodium Stearoyl Glutamate, BHT, Citric Acid, Disodium EDTA, Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose, Hydroxypropyltrimonium Hyaluronate, Lauric Acid, Methylparaben, PEG-32, Polyquaternium-7, Polyquaternium-52, Propylparaben, Sodium Acetylated Hyaluronate, Stearic Acid
Like I mention before, it is fragrance free and I don't really foam the face wash but even as I make circular motion, I can feel it's really gentle and moist. There's no tight feeling afterwards too. It leaves my skin soft and nice.
This lotion is especially formulated for those with combination oily skin, hence the light lotion. Its texture is light and non sticky. It is also free of fragrance, colorant, and mineral oil. Skin pH balanced and low irritation.
Directions: After cleansing with HADA LABO Goku-jyun Face Wash, pour a pea-size amount into your palm and rub between hands to heat. Gently pat onto face until thoroughly absorbed.
Ingredients : Water, Dipropylene Glycol Dimethyl Ether, Alcohol, Glycerin, Disodium Succinate, Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid, Methylparaben, PPG-10 Methyl Glucose Ether, Sodium Acetylated Hyaluronate, Sodium Hyaluronate, Succinic Acid
It looks like a normal clear toner, but it also acts as moisturizer that helps prepare your skin for better absorption. It feels nice on my skin and this is my favorite product out of the three. It doesn't contain butylene glycol which is a plus cause I notice my skin tends to react a bit badly to it. This lotion hydrates my skin and makes it more moist.
The moisturizing milk contains 3 types of Hyaluronic Acid, Hyaluronic Acid (1gm is able to hold 6 litres of water, effectively locks-in moisture on skin), Super Hyaluronic Acid (with twice the moisture retention capacity of HA to keep skin hydrated and smooth for a longer period of time), and Nano Hyaluronic Acid (with molecules size of 1/20 of HA, easily penetrates into the skin innermost layer to deeply moisturize the skin) that penetrates the skin to nourish and help restore skin's barrier to prevent moisture loss. The packaging is almost similar to the lotion. It's also fragrance free and colorant free.
Directions: Squeeze a dime-size amount into your hands and gently massage onto your face and neck until thoroughly absorbed. Use twice daily after applying Hada Labo Gokujyun Lotion to lock in moisture.
Ingredients : Water, Glycerin, Hydrogenated Poly (C6-12 Olefin), Dipropylene Glycol, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, PPG-10 Methyl Glucose Ether, Behenyl Alcohol, Carbomer, Dimethicone, Disodium EDTA, Glyceryl Stearate, Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid, Methylparaben, PEG-20 Sorbitan Isostearate, Phytosteryl/Octyldodecyl Lauroyl Glutamate, Propylparaben, Sodium Acetylated Hyaluronate, Sodium Hyaluronate, Stearyl Alcohol, Triethanolamine
The consistency is quite watery and the color is creamy white but it turns clear when spread and rubbed. It absorbs pretty quickly but on my skin it feels a bit heavier. It does give enough moisturize to my skin but to be honest I don't apply this moisturizing milk on my entire face, but only on specific areas like under my eyes forehead and cheeks. Applying the milk after light lotion makes my skin extra soft and smooth.
So, like I said I have combination oily skin and I do have acne prone skin. While trying the products, I broke out. I wasn't sure which one broke me out until around a month. Then I read that while Hyaluronic Acid series are good and suitable for all skin types, people with oily skin that live in humid countries tend to break out. I'm one of those people. So I limit my application, cause I really like how this HA series make my skin so soft and moist, especially at night. I only use the face wash in the morning. I use the lotion day and night. While I only use the moisturizing milk at night. Cause when I use all three day and night, I break out.
During my boyfriend's visit last month, I let him try these three products because he has extremely dry flaking skin, even while staying for weeks in this humid weather. After the first week, his skin looked better and after 2 weeks his skin improved much more than before and there was no flaking skin anymore. When he got back home, even his dad complimented that he had better complexion. I bought him some of these products to use, though I'm not sure if he still does the skincare routine I taught him >_> So yes, Hada Labo Gokujyun series are most effective on dry skin as it's really moisturizing and it really works to hydrate skin. Combination oily skin may need to use the Light Lotion instead of the original lotion though.
I'm happy I don't see flakes around my nose anymore after using Gokujyun series. After trying these Hada Labo Gokujyun products, I think I'm going to try other Hada Labo products as well I've always heard good things about them. Hada Labo products in Indonesia are packaged smaller than the original ones in Japan, which is great for me cause I won't like to spend so much only to realize they're not suitable for my skin. I guess I'm going to get some more again from Nihonmart cause it's affordable there, and mainly because I'm too lazy to buy it in the mall lol.
