Laneige BB Cushion Pore Control Review

laneige bb cushion pore control

Apparently, my cushion fever hasn't ended yet. And today I will be reviewing my new cushion baby, Laneige BB Cushion Pore Control. I'm sure most people know Laneige by now. But in case you don't, Laneige is a Korean brand under Amore Pacific. Etude House, Innisfree, Hera, and more brands are under the same company. Whenever I see Laneige products in store, I always see Song Hye Gyo pictures and her fantabulous flawless skin which I wish I have lol.

Anyway, from the name alone it's already a big hint that this product is a cushion specialized for people with pore issues. I've heard too many positive and great things about Laneige previous cushion products, Snow BB and the normal BB cushion. There are massive reviews on those products but early this year Laneige released new cushions, the renew BB cushion with 6 in 1 features and Pore Control BB cushion. I know many Singaporean bloggers have raved about them but only now I can personally try it out (after drooling for a while lol).

This is my 6th cushion and I must say I'm very impressed with this product cause this is the first cushion I try so far that gives soft matte finish! It was specially made with people with oily skin and pores problems in mind. Thank you, Laneige! Well as the name suggests, this BB cushion is (almost) like BB cream in the form of cushion. It contains the product beneath the sponge. And this Pore Control BB Cushion claims to have 6 main functions, to control oil and pore, UV protection, pore coverage, long lasting power without oxidizing and no cakey with its strong resistant against sebum and sweat, soothing effect with its cooling sensation, and more importantly soft matte finish which is perfect for people with combination oily skin. That's such a strong claim in my book, but we'll see if it lives up to its claims.

The packaging is very bulky cause it contains the cushion compact and refill. It's simple with the silver and black box, but it's very reflective and kind of hard to photograph properly lol. It doesn't have any english description and ingredients list on the box, but there is a mini booklet inside with brief description about the product and how to use it.

This is the shade I pick, no. 13 True Beige. From what I know there are 4 shades available, no 13 true beige, no 14 pink beige, no 21 natural beige, and no 23 sand beige. But I do read there's also no 31 brown beige. I was actually hesitating a lot when picking the right shade cause I was afraid no 13 would be too light while no 21 would be darker. No 14 is obviously pink undertone so I skip that one. But eventually I picked no 13.

The compact is not cute in any way, but it screams classy and sleek and I love it. It looks so pretty sitting on vanity desk. I think it is the same compact as Laneige BB cushion? The only difference is the glass part color, the BB cushion has white glass while Pore Control has light blue. It is quite bulky and might not be travel friendly for some, but I always have big handbag with me so it's not a problem for me.

The back of the compact has manufactured date and little information about this product like the shade and weight.

This is the refill. It also comes with the air puff.

This is how the cushion compact looks like when opened. It comes with a clear mirror and air puff.

There's separator lid and the the cushion sponge is sealed.

Here is the sponge. The color of the sponge isn't the BB cushion shade. The sponge always looks darker. Just press the air puff on the sponge to get some of the product out and apply it on the face.

The back of the air puff. The air puff is a rubycell puff (same as Etude House Any Cushion's) that's said to be made with a special technology. It feels soft and fluffy. It's firm but supple and more importantly it doesn't absorb the product as you can see from the picture above. The BB stays on the puff, ready to be applied on skin. And surprisingly, Laneige (and Etude House) air puffs are the easiest to wash.

Sorry had to zoom the nasty pores to show how this BB cushion covers my pores really well. It minimizes redness pretty good, but doesn't cover major blemishes like red angry active acne. It does cancel the redness though. While it doesn't cover all of my pores, it covers about 85% of my pores. My super big opened pore on my nose remains uncover.

As I mention above, this gives me semi matte finish which turns matte after about 20 minutes that I can touch my face and nothing transfers on my hand. While I cheer with joy with this new discovery (cushion with silky matte finish) but it has its own downside too as it can look a bit bad on areas with dryness like the side of my nose. So make sure to exfoliate and moisturize before using this cushion. But I can feel it's hydrating my skin.

It has light to medium coverage, so when I think some blemishes are lacking coverage, I use dense concealer brush to apply more around the blemishes I need to cover.

Now, for oil control. I apply this everyday before work around 8AM without dusting oil free powder (because I'm always in a rush in the morning and forgot my full face routine on weekdays). Normally with most foundation, BB creams, and cushion, I get shiny in 4 hours. While with oily free products, I get oily in 5 to 6 hours. So while having this BB cushion on my face, I keep checking to see when my face turns into oily mine. And surprisingly this Laneige Pore Control BB Cushion is able to keep my oil at bay. I see sprinkles of oil on my nose around 1PM but it's still nothing compared to the oiliness I usually get around that hour. And only at 2.30PM ish, I see my nose starts to shine bad and needs to be blotted. My cheeks area, however, remains good. If anything it looks slightly dewy (lol) instead of oily.On days I have oil free powder on top of the BB cushion, my face is shine free much longer.

There's no annoying smell, and it does have nice cooling effect that soothes my skin when I'm applying it. It's nice when retouching my face during the day, though I don't do it often and rely more on my blotting papers.

I must say, I'm very impressed with how this cushion works. While it can accentuate my dry skin, but its matte finish helps prevent cakeyness and it looks like second skin as long as I don't apply so many layers. Though it can't be helped sometimes because the coverage is only light to medium. My coworker asked if I don't wear makeup anymore these days. Cause obviously my big pimples aren't fully covered (it leaves purplish spots on red acne) and my face doesn't look made up. The BB cushion also stays on my face until I go home so it lives up to its long lasting claim.
